How to Search Cases by Name
Which system you use depends on the court level. Felonies, major civil cases, domestic matters, adoptions, probate, guardianship, and other Superior Court files are searched in Odyssey. District Court and municipal cases go through Washington Courts Search Case Records. Wherever the tool allows, set Douglas as your location.
- Identify the court from a notice, citation, filing, or known case type.
- Open Odyssey Portal for Superior Court, or Washington Courts Search Case Records for District and municipal cases.
- Enter the last name and first name. In Odyssey, remove a hyphen and try both spaced and unspaced forms when needed.
- Narrow the Douglas County case lookup by file dates, case type, status, or judicial officer.
- Open the matching cause number and compare party, filing, event, disposition, and hearing fields.
The statewide tool also handles person, case, and attorney searches. If a public search comes up empty, visit or call. The Superior Clerk sits at 203 S Rainier Street in Waterville. The phone is 509-745-8529. District Court is at 100 19th Street NW in East Wenatchee. The number there is 509-884-3536. For East Wenatchee Municipal Court, try 271 9th Street NE, 509-884-0680.
Douglas County Case Search in Odyssey
Washington Courts sends Douglas County Superior Court users straight to Odyssey. Its public landing page lays out three tools: Smart Search, Search Hearings, and Judgment Search. Registration is not required for case information. Douglas County's registration sheet notes that public document access is a separate product. Spotting an event is not seeing the filed image. The official Odyssey landing screen displays the separate search tiles. Each tile holds Douglas County case information.
Smart Search is the broad route when a party or case name is your starting point. Search Hearings fits better once the date, courtroom, hearing type, attorney, or judicial officer is what you know.
Douglas County Case Hearing Search
Odyssey Search Hearings narrows a Douglas County case search by hearing type: civil, criminal, family, probate, or mental health. Enter a case number, party, business, attorney, judicial officer, or courtroom. Then set a date range.
How to Search by Case Number
A full cause number beats a common name for a clean Douglas County case lookup. Public calendar examples include 26-1-00028-09, 26-3-00027-09, and 26-8-00012-09. Read them as year, category, sequence, and court code. The samples hint at adult criminal, domestic or family, and juvenile-style categories, though the county publishes no full numbering manual. Confirm the case type with the portal or the clerk. Type the number exactly as printed at first. Odyssey allows a wildcard after at least four case-number characters. The wildcard helps a partial number. It can also flood you with matches. Narrow by Douglas location and file dates. District or municipal matters take the number into Washington Courts. A citation number may work instead in the Douglas District Tyler service. Note: A cause-number segment is a search clue, not proof of a charge, claim, or final result.
Douglas County Case Search Fields
Odyssey Smart Search starts with one broad search value, then adds advanced filters. No filter fixes choosing the wrong court. Douglas County sits in the Odyssey case-information group. It is not identified as an Odyssey document-management county.
| Field label | Type | Required | Douglas County use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Search Value | Text | Yes | Case number, party, business, attorney, or another supported value |
| Court Location by County | Dropdown | No | Select Douglas to reduce unrelated Superior Court results |
| Search Type | Dropdown | No | Includes case number, party, business, attorney, citation, officer, and other routes |
| Case Type and Status | Filters | No | Narrow the case category and current status shown by the portal |
| File Date Start / End | Date fields | No | Reduce common-name results to a useful range |
| Judicial Officer | Filter | No | Use when the assigned officer is known |
Names ignore capitalization. The official guide allows * as a wildcard after one first-name character or three last-name characters. Only the first 200 records come back, so Douglas County, case type, and date filters matter.
What a Case Search Shows
A Douglas County result identifies the case and traces its public events. Odyssey lets you move among Case Information, Party, Disposition Events, Events, and Hearings. The statewide result is thinner. Neither service promises every event or the latest status. A hearing entry is not a disposition.
| Cause number | The local identifier that connects the result, calendar row, and clerk request. |
|---|---|
| Case caption | The public case title and party names, subject to access limits. |
| Filed date and type | When the case began and the broad court category assigned to it. |
| Parties and counsel | Public roles, attorneys, and judicial officer where the system supplies them. |
| Events | Chronological filings, appearances, motions, orders, hearings, and administrative entries. |
| Disposition and hearings | Outcome fields and scheduled events, which should be checked against the actual order. |
Financial or post-judgment fields can show up too. They may cover bail, costs, restitution, judgments, or enforcement steps. When the exact meaning matters, request the filed order.
Douglas County Case Search Traps
A blank Douglas County case search can come from spelling or punctuation. The wrong court can do it. So can a new entry that has not refreshed, or a restricted record. In Odyssey, try the last name with at least three characters plus a wildcard. Search hyphenated names without the dash. For a surname with a possible separator, run both spaced and unspaced versions. Wildcard and Sounds Like cannot combine. If the 200-record limit bites, add a first name, the Douglas County location, a date range, a case category, or a judicial officer. Nothing in Odyssey? The case may sit in District Court or a municipal court. An empty Washington Courts search points you back to Odyssey for a Superior matter. Recent statewide entries can lag. The public state search refreshes roughly every 24 hours, around 3:00 a.m.
Douglas County Tyler Case Search
The Douglas District Tyler portal takes a citation number, driver's license, or name. It covers participating limited-jurisdiction Enterprise Justice cases only. It holds no Superior Court case information.
County vs Statewide Case Search
No single Douglas County portal spans every court level. Odyssey serves as the county's public Superior Court case-information layer. Washington Courts Search Case Records and Find My Court Date handle District and municipal cases plus broader participating court data. The Douglas District Tyler site is narrower still.
| Search route | Coverage | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Odyssey Portal | Douglas Superior Court public case information | Smart Search, hearings, events, and judgments |
| Washington Courts | Municipal, district, superior, and appellate reference data, with Douglas Superior routed to Odyssey | District or municipal case lookup and court dates |
| Douglas District Tyler | Participating limited-jurisdiction Enterprise Justice cases only | Citation, driver's license, or name search tied to District service |
| Court clerk | The official file held by that court | Verification, documents, older records, and certified copies |
The Washington Courts entry screen is shown in an official source capture below.
Statewide search tools help you figure out which court holds a file. For the full Douglas County record and its current status, though, the local clerk is the office to trust.
Douglas County Case Documents
Reading case information in Odyssey is not the same as seeing a filed document. Douglas County's registration sheet draws that line plainly. The portal gives you case information; actual documents come by request. An annual OnBase subscription may be an option too, and the Clerk can explain how. TrueFiling serves a different purpose. It submits Superior Court filings. It will not search the public docket for you.
To order papers, use the Clerk's online document request, call 509-745-8529, mail a written request, or stop at the Waterville counter. Be specific. Give the cause number, the parties, the document type, the event date if you know it, your preferred delivery method, and whether you need a certified copy. District Court keeps its own request form and counter. East Wenatchee Municipal Court takes requests by pickup, mail, email, or fax. One limit applies there. Certified copies cannot be faxed or emailed.
Skip the ordinary Douglas County Public Records Act route for judicial case files. County guidance points court-record requests to Superior Court or District Court instead. Very old files may need staff help, since the official portals do not promise that every historical document was digitized.
Douglas County Case Calendar Search
The county's weekday Superior Court PDFs offer another way to tie a cause number to a hearing. Each calendar lists hearing labels, counsel, the DPA, and notes. Changes made after the posting cutoff can be missing, so treat the PDF as a snapshot rather than a live calendar.
Douglas County Case Search Refresh
How fresh is the data? Washington Courts says public name and case information refreshes about every 24 hours. So a filing made at the clerk counter may not appear until the next cycle. There is one more wrinkle. Douglas District Court and East Wenatchee Municipal Court adopted CLJ-EJ, also called Enterprise Justice, on October 26, 2024. State reports caution that transition-period data may be undercounted.
A missing result is not proof that no case exists. Check the other court level, wait for a recent entry to refresh, and contact the court of record.
Care most about a hearing date? Check the case result against the Douglas County court dates page and the current weekday calendar. A newer order or a direct instruction from the court always beats stale public data.
Restricted Cases and Access Rules
Washington court records are open to the public under GR 31. That openness has limits. GR 15 governs sealing and redaction. GR 22 shields certain family-law and guardianship source documents, health records, confidential reports, and identifiers. RCW 13.50 restricts access to juvenile justice and care records. The result can feel confusing. A Douglas County case may show up in an index. One document inside it can stay blocked. A protected case may never appear in an ordinary search.
Never guess at a missing result. Sealed, juvenile, confidential family, destroyed, and brand-new records each behave differently. The Douglas County Clerk can explain the public status of a file. The office can also walk you through the request procedure. The Clerk cannot give legal advice. It also cannot grant access beyond what a rule or court order allows. For any approved access process, ask the court that keeps the file.
Treat an online Douglas County case lookup as reference material. When you need the real answer on a disposition, judgment, or current status, verify with the originating court and order a plain or certified copy of the actual record.
